Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.” (Malachi 3:10).

What type of blessing is the above scripture referring to? Is it a spiritual or a material blessing? I suspect that it is a material blessing. Why are so many people saying that Christians should not have wealth? People saying that there is a “prosperity gospel”. Whatever that means. People want God to be stingy with His children. God pays more than minimum wage. 1 Corinthians 9:14, “In the same way, the Lord commanded that those who proclaim the gospel should get their living by the gospel.”

I, for one, have no problem with ministers of the gospel who are wealthy. Maybe God has seen fit to bless them to the extent that they exhibit. It is also none of my business. It is between them and God. The most important work a person can do, is to win souls to Christ. Heaven and earth will pass away but a soul lives on forever. There are examples in the bible where God made people rich. Some examples are Abraham, Jacob and Job after he passed his test. Money is not evil. It is the love of money that leads to evil. It is possible to have money and not be in love with it. Money is a useful tool in the world.

Sometimes not having money to purchase the things you need can cause you to end up in jail or arrive at the “pearly gates” early. They no longer have debtors’ prisons; however, it is a fact that not having enough money to pay one’s debts can lead to a loss of peace and in some cases crime. God has promised to supply all our needs. In some instances, these needs are financial. We cannot help the poor, if we ourselves are poor.
