As a parent, we would be disappointed if our baby did not grow. We fully expect our child to reach certain milestones of growth in a timely manner. We would be very concerned if our child at 6 years old, for instance, was still crawling and not walking. If our child was still in need of baby formula at 7 years of age, we would wonder why the child is not thriving as he/she should.
I believe God expects His children to grow Spiritually. We start out drinking milk but should progress to meat. 1 Corinthians 3:2 “I fed you with milk and not with solid food; for until now you were not able to receive it, and even now you are still not able;” God, when we first become born-again, realizes that we need a lot of help fighting Spiritual warfare. It would be difficult for a spiritual baby to put on the whole armor of God.
However, there should come a time when we know how to put on the whole armor and know how to use the sword of the Spirit and the shield of faith. While being protected by the breastplate of righteousness and the helmet of salvation. There comes a time when God expects us to use the weapons He has given us to win in spiritual warfare. He is always with us and will always hear and answer our prayers, however, He has given us power to wield in the earth. This power is most effectively wielded as we grow in the knowledge of God and of how He expects us to live triumphantly in His kingdom.
The Bible tells us to speak to things we wish to see changed. To claim those things, we have need of. To effectively use our faith, which grew as we heard the word of God, to bring about change in the world. We are soldiers in God’s army. An army is most effective when all the soldiers are well trained, fearless and bold. We have the best leader of all time, in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
1 Corinthians 13:11, “ When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things.”
