Matthew 3:17: “And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” We know of Jesus’ obedience to The Father. He was obedient even to the cross. Jesus prayed, Matthew 26:39: “And he went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless, not as I will, but as thou wilt.” Jesus’ death on the cross was preceded by great physical suffering. The Bible tells us that He despised the shame. Yet, He did it all for us in obedience to The Father. The Father was willing to sacrifice His Son who knew no sin to redeem sinful man back to Himself.

Therefore, how can we think that there are ways, outside of accepting Jesus’ death and resurrection as the atonement for our sins, that can reconcile us to God? If we could be reconciled by good works, there would be no reason for Jesus to die. The Bible tells us that our righteousness is as filthy rags (Isaiah 64:6). We are incapable of living an acceptable life before God because of the flesh. The flesh operates off the five senses and is not spiritual. The flesh longs for the things of this world. However, we are told to: “love not the world neither the things that are in the world” (1 John 2:15-17). Everything in the world is temporary and cannot be taken beyond the grave. The spiritual things of God are eternal. It is wiser to store up eternal rewards than to spend all our days storing up things on earth.

Today, as we celebrate Father’s Day, let us be thankful for Father’s who are providers and set good examples for their children to follow. Happy Father’s Day! May God bless everyone richly!
