VANISHED: Two U.S. troops go missing during ‘African Lion’ war games

Ground, air and maritime assets all take part in search-and-rescue mission for American service members who disappeared

he U.S. military is searching for two service members who mysteriously went missing in Morocco on Saturday during a war games exercise.

United States Africa Command, or AFRICOM, announced: “Two U.S. service members participating in African Lion 2026 were reported missing near the Cap Draa Training Area, near the city of Tan Tan, Morocco, May 2, 2026.”

It also noted: “U.S., Moroccan and other assets from African Lion immediately initiated coordinated search and rescue operations, including ground, air, and maritime assets.
