Matthew 8:26-27 (NIV) “Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?”
I believe I inherited the art of worrying from my mother😊. It seems to come naturally to me. I do not consider myself to be a pessimist, in fact, I am more of an optimist. However, when things are not adding up, especially in the area of my children, I am very much inclined to act like my mother did…go into a state of worry, imagining all the bad things that could be happening.
I had to train myself to cut off the negative thoughts and replace them with prayer and positive scripture verses. I have also learned to visualize the positive outcome I am looking for. Recently, I had to stop listening to so much political news. I began to feel overwhelmed by all the negativities. I know that there is no problem too hard for God to fix. I finally realized that the only thing I could do (In most cases) was to pray and trust that He would intervene.
Isaiah 26:3 “You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.” Faith is the key to making it through perilous times. Having our mind stayed on God is to see God in every situation. It means never losing sight of the fact that we are never fighting our battles alone. When we fully realize the power of the One who fights with and for us, we can relax in the knowledge that our victory is assured. There is no devil or man more powerful than God. Therefore, when we immerse ourselves in His promises, when we see how much He is for us and not against us, we can rest in Him and experience His peace.
