Daniel 12:4 4 “But you, Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book until the time of the end; many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase.”

I’m old enough to remember when encyclopedias were considered essential in every home, and when people relied on the library as one of their main sources of knowledge. Today, there are so many different ways to gain information/knowledge with the internet. You can find a YouTube tutorial on almost anything.

I remember when people did not have cell phones. When once you left your house and were on the road you were basically unreachable. Now, we have begun to think that having a cell phone is mandatory. There is so much more knowledge and ability to connect across the globe. However, the increase in knowledge has posed new challenges.

Knowledge is not the same as wisdom. In fact, the increase in knowledge requires wisdom. There are so many falsehoods that are shared in the new ways of communicating. My son who works in cybersecurity never ceases to amaze me in his knowledge of all things digital. If not for him and the Holy Spirit, I could have been caught up in many online scams. So many things that seem real are not. With the knowledge available today, we can become wealthy by applying it wisely.

Another sign of the imminent return of the Lord is many running “to and fro”. It probably would have been hard for Daniel to conceive of people flying all over the world to reach other places in such short periods of time. His own, personal, knowledge of the world would have been limited unless shown to him by the Lord. Back then, there were no automobiles and getting from one place to another was very time-consuming.

There are many bible prophesies being fulfilled that point to the imminent return of the Lord. We know by reading the bible that there will not be world peace before the Lord’s return. Instead, there will be perilous times. As we see these prophesies being fulfilled, we can look forward to the return of Jesus who has promised to usher in a time of peace on earth (after satan has been banished to his eternal home in hell). Knowing this, we can rejoice during times of challenge. The best is yet to come.
