The scripture above, which is a scripture from the Old Testament, shows how much God hates those who prophesy falsely. Under the covenant of the New Testament God’s grace provides us with mercy when we sin against Him. Those who choose to lead people astray by using God’s name and knowingly lying that the prophetic words they are saying is from God, are in danger of God’s judgment.
It could be the preacher who in an effort to collect money state that God has told them that a certain number of people are supposed to donate a specific amount. They may further state that these people can expect a supernatural return on their giving. This type of preaching is blasphemy and may cause them to incur God’s judgment.
Just recently I saw a man on YouTube saying that Jesus in a dream/vision told him that He would be returning on September 23rd or 24th. He emphasized how sure he was that the rapture was going to take place on one of these days. Needless to say, the rapture did not take place. In a follow-up interview, he moved the date to October 7th. He was noticeably unapologetic about his false prophecy. In fact, he seemed more combative and less defensive on the matter.
I also saw many people stating that they had sold or given away vehicles, houses, pets, etc., in anticipation of being raptured. Some quit their job. However, there is a scripture that states clearly that only the Father knows the day of the Lord’s return. Jesus stated that He did not know the day. If God would not tell His Son the exact day of His return, why would he tell an ordinary man. Matthew 24:36 “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father” This is a prime example of why we must read/study the bible for ourselves. Many people have the ability to speak a lie with a great deal of conviction.
We are told to be ready for the Lord’s return. While the bible tells of the signs of the end times, it does not tell us of the exact day of the Lord’s return. God wants us to live each day as if it is the day of Jesus’ return. If we knew the specific day, many of us would choose to indulge our sinful nature with a plan to repent and be ready just prior to the day. 2 Timothy 4:8 “Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.” It is good for us to look forward with great anticipation to the Lord’s return…it might be today.
