1 Timothy 2:1-2 “ First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, 2 for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.”
When I read the scriptures and apply it to what is happening in the country today, I find many anomalies. The government is given authority by God to mete out judgment upon those who practice lawlessness. The government does not operate under the “turn the other cheek” command. No doubt we need strong government oversight to prevent anarchy and disorder.
The application of government’s powers should be done with wisdom and fairness. The government must always have the best interest of all people as its motivation and goal. It seems that almost every day there is something new that is of concern. The days of the status quo seem to be in the rear view mirror. It is unclear where the country is headed, even though it seems to be headed there at break-neck speed.
God would not have told us to pray for those who are in authority, if he did not intend to answer these prayers. God is still on the throne and no man can overturn what God has determined to do.
