Satan’s mission is always the opposite of God’s. He is incapable of love, for love comes from God and he is separated from God. He has no mercy even on those who, in their folly, have chosen to worship him. He will allow you to be rich, if those riches will keep you from seeking God. He knows that his time is short and that his destination is hell. I submit that even though he is wicked and goes about seeking whom he may devour, he needs God’s permission to act against us. Satan is a defeated foe. Jesus defeated him when he died and rose again from the grave. He no longer has dominion over the earth, even though he still has the power to deceive with lies and manipulation.
Adam’s disobedience caused man to be separated from God and allowed the devil to have power in the earth. Jesus stripped him of that power: Romans 5:17 For if by the one man’s offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.)
We know the story of Job. Satan attacked Job and his household. Before satan could attack Job, God had to lift the hedge of protection he had placed around Job (Job 1:10) Today, we are protected by God from satan. If satan could have his way, he would triumph over the children of God. His plan to steal, kill and destroy would be in full operation with no recourse. Not only are we protected by God, He has given us weapons to fight against satan. These weapons are wielded by faith. We are not without recourse. We can bind his works. We can cast him out. We can pray for the sick and they will recover. We can stand on the promises of God and see them manifested in our lives.
Psalm 91 speaks of God’s protection. Psalm 91:15 reads: He shall call upon me and I will answer him. I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him. We know that satan also knows the scriptures. He quoted Psalm 91:11-12 to Jesus while tempting him. However, satan always tries to pervert the word, to twist it into something he can use for his own purposes. He started doing this in the garden of Eden when he said…yeah, has God said…he still continues to do it today.
So, the fact is, we have God’s protection in our lives. He will sometimes use angels to achieve this. As we continue to be sober and vigilant regarding the wiles of the devil, we can trust in God’s ability to keep us from harm.
