President Donald Trump blasted House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer as “hardliners” in a Monday morning tweet for failing to compromise with GOP lawmakers on a coronavirus relief package.
On Saturday, Trump signed several executive orders aimed at helping provide financial relief to Americans after Congress failed to pass a package.
On Monday, the president ripped the Democrat lawmakers for failing to come to an agreement with Senate Republicans.
“So now Schumer and Pelosi want to meet to make a deal,” he tweeted. “Amazing how it all works, isn’t it. Where have they been for the last 4 weeks when they were ‘hardliners’, and only wanted BAILOUT MONEY for Democrat run states and cities that are failing badly? They know my phone number!”
On Sunday, Pelosi and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin indicated that they were open to restarting COVID-19 relief talks, after weeks of failed negotiations.
Plans to pass a fifth bill failed to come to fruition on Friday, which led Trump to act on his own on Saturday. He passed executive orders covering unemployment benefits, evictions, student loans and payroll taxes.
