National Security at Risk as China Covets US Lithium

Listen To The Article Below

c

an the White House be so naïve as to not get what the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is doing with its ties to sales of US lithium mined in Nevada? Nearly every piece of battery-powered electronic equipment produced by the commercial and defense industries depends on a reliable source of lithium. Because the need is so immense, even Elon Musk last May said he is considering starting an independent lithium mining operation. More troubling is how the People’s Republic of China (PRC) is dominating the metal’s worldwide supply chain.

“Today, Chinese companies hold key positions in the global lithium supply chain, both upstream and downstream, representing roughly 80% of battery cell manufacturing as of 2021,” Dillon Jaghory explained in a Nasdaq.com article. As a result, the PRC, like a spreading malignancy, is infecting nearly every aspect of US technology infrastructure critical to American national security and daily life.

China Could Benefit From US Lithium Mining

Lithium Americas, a Canadian enterprise, wants the United States to help the CCP. “A Canadian company hopes to use Biden administration loans to open the largest lithium mine in North America. But first, it must convince government officials and prospective partners that it’s adequately decoupled from its top shareholder: a Chinese enterprise led by known Chinese Communist Party members,” Colin Anderson reported in The Washington Free Beacon. However, Lithium Americas, with its major investor, Chinese mineral behemoth Ganfeng Lithium, intends to split the company in order to isolate its PRC-controlled partner from operating and financial decisions.

The Department of Defense has vowed “to fleet up with electric vehicles (EV), replacing all of their approximately 170,000 ‘non-tactical’ cars and trucks,” Liberty Nation reported. With current technology, every one of those non-tactical vehicles requires a lithium-ion battery. However, the problem is more than just the aspirations of Joe Biden’s green future: Warfighters in the field and in garrison depend on a reliable, robust lithium-based battery supply chain. And the Biden administration is hellbent on 50% of American vehicles being electric by 2030, just seven short years away. If circumstances don’t change rapidly and dramatically, Beijing will hold the United States hostage to the vagaries of its worldview and dominance in mining and refining lithium.

y thoughts are not your thoughts; neither are your ways My ways. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways and thoughts higher than yours. Remember who I am when you spend time with Me. Marvel at the wonder of being able to commune with the King of the universe—any time, any place. Never take this amazing privilege for granted!
Though I am vastly higher and greater than you, I am training you to think My thoughts. As you spend time in My Presence, My thoughts gradually form in your mind. My Spirit is the Director of this process. Sometimes He brings Bible verses to mind. Sometimes He enables you to hear Me “speak” directly to you. These communications strengthen you and prepare you for whatever is before you on your life-path. Take time to listen to My voice. Through your sacrifice of precious time, I bless you far more than you dare to ask.”

Would You Consider Becoming a Patron?

I have been blogging at Challies.com on a daily basis for over 19 years now. That long commitment has allowed me to write thousands of articles and hundreds of book reviews while also sending millions of visitors to other sites through the daily A La Carte feature. Of course I’ve also written a number of books, though through it all the blog has remained the “main thing.” Much of the blog’s content is now also translated into SpanishFrench, and a number of other languages.

One of my great desires through this time has been to freely give away as much as possible. I intend for it to always remain entirely free for all who visit. While for obvious reasons this can’t happen when it comes to books, I’ve made it my goal to ensure that everything else has been freely and widely distributed. This has been possible largely because of advertisers. Yet as time goes on and the online advertising market shifts, I find there is also a key role for the generosity of individuals.

This is where patrons come in. A service called Patreon provides a convenient means of linking content producers (like me) with supporters (like you).

To that end, I would like to ask those who regularly read this site to consider supporting me by becoming a patron. By supporting me with even a modest monthly gift, you will be able to be part of this ongoing work. You will also receive Patron-only monthly updates on what I have been doing in the month that has passed and what I plan to do in the month ahead. Funds donated will be used to support my family and to help create great content or to otherwise improve, support, and enhance Challies.com. In one way or another they will all be used to allow me to continue to do what I have been doing for these past 19 years.

(I’m also sometimes asked about one-time gifts. If that is of interest to you, they can be forwarded by check to the mailing address here or to PayPal.)

Please understand that I intend for Challies.com to always remain entirely free. In fact, patrons help ensure that it always remains that way.

Thank you for considering becoming a patron of Challies.com. Your support means so much to me. And this is the end of my once-yearly mention of this subject!

Twitter takes action on its COVID ‘misleading information’ policy

Listen To The Article Below

t

witter has quietly halted enforcement of its COVID-19 misinformation policies, with Twitter users first discovering the change Monday night, according to CNN.

Twitter issued a variety of measures since the pandemic’s onset in 2020, including a policy that allowed users to report misinformation directly to Twitter to another taking action against tweets that alleged vaccinated individuals could still spread COVID-19. The policy, which has suspended more than 11,000 accounts and removed more than 90,000 pieces of content on the social media platform, was praised by U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy as a model for how other companies could combat misinformation, according to CNN.

“Effective Nov. 23, 2022, Twitter is no longer enforcing the COVID-19 misleading information policy,” an update to the app’s website regarding COVID-19 misinformation reads.

Twitter’s policy was similar to those implemented by Facebook and YouTube, which remain in effect, according to Reuters. The relationship between these social media platforms and White House officials, including Chief Medical Advisor to the President Dr. Anthony Fauci and former Press Secretary Jennifer Psaki, is central to an ongoing lawsuit brought by Republican Attorneys General Eric Schmitt of Missouri and Jeff Landry of Louisiana alleging that the federal government colluded with private social media companies to suppress users’ free speech rights.

CEO Elon Musk — who has styled himself as a champion of free speech online — has struggled to retain departing advertisers, who often cite concern over the future of Twitter’s moderation policies under the tech mogul. Musk alleged Monday that Apple had significantly cut back on advertising on the platform and had threatened to pull Twitter from its app store without explaining why, before he accused the company of engaging in censorship.

Democrats Could Pick Speaker If Republicans Continue Fighting

Listen To The Article Below

h

ouse Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy has issued a stark warning to his fellow Republicans. He wants them to know if they mess around with their votes for Speaker, and stage protest votes, it could give the Democrats the chance to elect the Speaker of the House.

“We’ve had a couple of these folks that say that they won’t vote for you on the show. When we ask them what they want. They list a couple rules, concessions that they want. And we say, well, if you get those concessions, will you vote for McCarthy, ‘Well, we’re not sure,’” Newsmax host Sean Spicer said.

“Well, then who do you want your candidate to be? ‘We don’t know that.’ You know, one can’t one of those people suggested Jim Jordan, he supporting you, Marjorie Taylor Greene is supporting you, Donald Trump supporting you,” the host said.

“You’ve raised, what, $500 million? Some of these people, you’ve actually funded their races. The thing that I don’t understand is I don’t envy your task. These folks aren’t giving you a target. I get your point. There’s no alternative. Everybody has voted for you. The conference has spoken. And as James Comer at the top of that clip said, you know, you’ve earned the opportunity. You were the quarterback, the coach that led them to the big game and won,” he said.

“So the question is, going back to what Lindsay said. You’ve got five people that you’ve laid out all your cards out there. What is it that you are able to say to them that is going to change them at this point to get you 218?” he said.

“d

o not be surprised by the fiery attacks on your mind. When you struggle to find Me and to live in My Peace, don’t let discouragement set in. You are engaged in massive warfare, spiritually speaking. The evil one abhors your closeness to Me, and his demonic underlings are determined to destroy our intimacy. When you find yourself in the thick of battle, call upon My Name: “Jesus, help me!” At that instant, the battle becomes Mine; your role is simply to trust Me as I fight for you.
My Name, properly used, has unlimited Power to bless and protect. At the end of time, every knee will bow (in heaven, on earth, and under the earth) when My Name is proclaimed. People who have used “Jesus” as a shoddy swear word will fall down in terror on that awesome day. But all those who have drawn near Me through trustingly uttering My Name will be filled with inexpressible and glorious Joy. This is your great hope as you await My return.”

Weekend A La Carte (December 3)

My gratitude goes to Banner of Truth for sponsoring the blog this week to tell you about a new collection of writings by J.C. Ryle.

(Yesterday on the blog: Fight For Your Pastor)

Time to Rethink your Church Website?

“Our website is our most easily accessed 24/7 communication face to the world. Are we being wise in our use of it?” I think this is well worth asking. This article asks whether putting all of our sermons online is still wise.

My Broken Engagement

“Has God forgotten me? No, my heart said. But it wasn’t a statement of faith. It was a cry of sorrow: I wish that he had. Because if he had forgotten me, it would mean that he didn’t know about my broken engagement, that he wasn’t an indifferent observer watching me in my living room, sprawled out on my rug like a dead spider, sobbing until I had to run to the bathroom and vomit.”

The Value of Repeated Bible Reading

“There is no perfect Bible reading plan. Many Christians try to read through the whole Bible every year, a laudable goal, but sometimes only reading a passage once a year keeps us from really grappling with its message.” Scott encourages different ways of repeatedly reading the Bible.

The 5 Shaky Pillars of Insider Movement Strategies

“Compassion for the lost creates urgency for missions. Yet, urgency alone, untempered by a primary concern for God’s glory and God’s means, can quickly run afoul of biblical methodology and doctrinal truth. Those urgently seeking to increase their fruitfulness can be tempted to sacrifice biblical precision on the altar of expediency and pragmatism. One example of this in contemporary missions is what is known as Insider Movement (IM) strategies.”

3 Misconceptions That Many Muslims Have about Christianity

I have often found this to be true: “Muslims love to talk about religion, and I write this to encourage you to talk with your Muslim neighbors about meaningful spiritual matters that concern salvation and eternity. Unlike Westerners who often avoid conversations about religion and politics with people they just met, Muslims have no problem discussing religious matters. They cherish such conversations.”

Biden voted against ending 1992 railroad strike but wants Congress to act to avoid one now

w

hile President Biden is now prodding Congress to take action to avoid a national railroad strike, he was one of six U.S. senators who voted against ending the railroad strike in 1992.

“It is a difficult decision to oppose this legislation,” then-Sen. Biden said in June 1992. “I am concerned about the serious effects of a continued shutdown of our nation’s rail system on hundreds of companies in Delaware and across the country. But I am also concerned that we are rewarding a concerted decision of the railroads that would have caused fevered expressions of outrage by industry had the unions taken a similar step.”

Biden said at the time that he was “not convinced” that Congress should “act to reward the actions of the railroad companies at this time.”

The purpose of the 1992 resolution was “to provide for a settlement of the railroad labor-management disputes between certain railroads” and their employees. The resolution passed the Senate 87-6.

Biden is currently calling for congressional action to avoid a railroad strike. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said the House will take a floor vote on the legislation on Wednesday. She said the bill would reflect the “tentative agreement” from September, which involved the U.S. Labor Department.

Is this the Supreme Court case that will drain the swamp?

Listen To The Article Below

“t

he Question: How can you support, and defend, the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic?  Answer: You investigate.  If there are claims that there is a threat, even if you don’t believe there is a threat, you investigate.

How else can you determine if there is a threat unless you investigate?  You can’t.  Were there claims of a threat to the Constitution?  Yes.  Where did these serious claims come from?  100 members of Congress.  What was the threat?  That there were enemies of the Constitution who successfully rigged the 2020 election.  Is this lawsuit about a rigged election?  No, it’s about the members of Congress who voted AGAINST the investigation thereby thwarting the investigation.  Was this a clear violation of their oath?  YES.”

—Question of Law in the Supreme Court case known as Brunson v. Alma S. Adams; et al. (Biden, Harris, Pence & 385 Members of Congress)

They Broke Their Oaths

Loy, Raland, Deron, and Gaynor Brunson all witnessed what they believed to be the theft of the 2020 election and decided to file suit.  However, the interesting approach that they have taken is not to make a formal complaint that the election was stolen; instead, they have chosen to sue members of the U.S. Congress who voted not to investigate whether any election irregularities may have occurred that could have affected the outcome.  In other words, the Brunson Brothers were motivated to sue because these elected officials broketheir oaths to protect the Constitution of the United States.

The Brunson Brothers believed that, to support and defend the Constitution, an investigation into possible fraud needed to take place.  Otherwise, how could anyone know with certainty whether the election had been secure?

What shocked the Brunson Brothers was that only 147 members of the US Congress voted in support of the proposed ten-day audit of the election before certifying the ballot count of the Electoral College, while, according to the Washington Post, 377 members voted against the proposed ten-day investigation, and eight abstained.

FEAR

https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/h_600,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https://bucketeer-e05bbc84-baa3-437e-9518-adb32be77984.s3.amazonaws.com/public/images/928363f1-d231-4d75-908a-166c730a59cd_640x480.jpeg

It is possible to receive great blessings and not enjoy them because of fear. It has a lot to do with our perspective. For instance, the Lord could bless me with a new house, but I spend all my time afraid that the deal will not go through. Instead of praising God for His blessing, I spend time fretting that things will not work out. It is just as easy, if not easier to expect a good outcome. We have to banish the negative thoughts that so often occur. These negative thoughts can rob us of our joy. When these negative thoughts come up, we have to replace them with faith-filled thoughts.

This is an ongoing practice that we must develop. Recently the Lord blessed my family to be able to go on a cruise. I am very aware that Covid is still being spread. Thank God we are not where we were when the pandemic was at its height. At first, the cruise lines declared strict Covid protocols. Passengers had to be vaccinated and/or get tested just prior to departure. I felt that gave me some measure of protection against being exposed to the virus. At the last minute, they changed the requirements to a come-one-come-all approach. No one had to be vaccinated and no one had to get tested. We were one of the few passengers that wore masks when we felt it was required. I would say 98% of the passengers were maskless.

I could have let that rob me of the enjoyment of the cruise. We prayed and asked God to protect us and we had a very relaxing, enjoyable cruise. If we had caught anything, it should have been manifested by now, so we did not contract any deadly virus.  Praise the Lord!! Fear could have robbed us of the enjoyment of our blessing.

Satan comes to steal, kill, and destroy. He uses fear to rob us of our peace of mind and our enjoyment of life. He likes to plant that “what if” in our minds. His “what if” is always negative. We can replace it with a “what if” that is positive. “What if” everything goes according to plan.

In order to have peace of mind, we must walk in faith. We must firmly believe that everything is going to work out fine. We must also believe that God is working everything for our good.

Railroad union workers fume at Biden ahead of congressional vote to prevent strike

Listen To The Article Below

r

ailroad union workers on Tuesday raged against President Joe Biden for declining to advocate that Congress amend their contract in a favorable manner ahead of a vote that could force them to accept a lesser deal.

“Unfortunately, the ‘most labor-friendly president’ has opted to side with Big Business and call for a thwarting of railroad workers’ right to strike,” Railroad Workers United wrote in a press release. “On Monday, President Joe Biden called upon Congress to adopt legislation that would mandate a contract and end the threat of any legally sanctioned rail strike from happening.”

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced that the lower chamber would vote on a bill on Wednesday to force the labor unions to accept terms and avoid a major strike. The Railway Labor Act of 1926 gives Congress the authority to intervene in the matter and impose terms on the unions. The House vote, should it succeed, would impose terms that several of the major rail unions have already rejected.

“Joe Biden blew it,” Railroad Workers United Treasurer Hugh Sawyer declared. “He had the opportunity to prove his labor-friendly pedigree to millions of workers by simply asking Congress for legislation to end the threat of a national strike on terms more favorable to workers. Sadly, he could not bring himself to advocate for a lousy handful of sick days. The Democrats and Republicans are both pawns of big business and the corporations.”

A Southern Baptist Pastor’s Plea: Please Listen

Why Johnny Hunt’s “restoration” convinces me we don’t have ears to hear.

I have seen this before.

As I watched four pastors (two of them belonging to the Southern Baptist Convention) declare former convention president Johnny Hunt restored to ministry—six months after he was put on leave when a third-party investigation found he was “credibly accused” of sexual assault—I realized I knew what I was seeing. I hadn’t watched this exact 14-minute video, of course, with four men offering assurances of repentance, but I had seen it.

I’d seen it at the church where leaders gave their assurances that a young man would not abuse any more girls. “We gave him a stern talking to,” they said. “This won’t happen again.”

I’d seen it when a pastor told a woman whose husband had created a psychologically and spiritually abusive home that she shouldn’t leave. “Let the pastors work with him,” he said. “We’ll be like watchdogs.”

And here it was again.

The most terrifying thing about these scenes is that these leaders are not bad men. I don’t know Johnny Hunt’s quartet of supporters, but I know the leaders of the church where abuse took place. And I know the pastor who gave that bad marital counsel: It was me.

So as eager as I was to go online and denounce all that was appalling about this video—the misuse of Scripture, treating the abuser as the victim, and failing to even mention the real victim—I realized I couldn’t train my sights on this group of men. No, for a Southern Baptist pastor like me, the video is not a target but a mirror.

It is a mirror that shows us what happens when our convictions about complementarity rot into misogyny. It is a mirror that shows us how the can-do, …
