team associated with Chongqing Medical University’s Basic and Translational Research of Tumor Immunology, in the sprawling metropolis in the southwestern part of China, reports disturbing results based on a series of mice laboratory experiments. Findings, if applicable in humans, should lead to serious concerns about ongoing application of COVID-19 vaccine boosters.

The repetitive application of vaccine boosters became a strategy, especially in the West, in response to the continuous evolution of the SARS-CoV-2 virus producing variants with neutralization escape mutations. The Chinese scientists point out that little is known about either A) the protective efficacy or B) the potential for adverse effects. Employing use of Balb/c mice models, the study authors report that they compared both the humoral and cellular immune response of an extended course of recombinant receptor binding domain (RBD) vaccine boosters against a conventional vaccination strategy.

They report that applying multiple vaccine boosters after the initial primary series significantly lowers RBD-specific antibody titers and serum neutralizing efficacy against both the Delta and Omicron variants. Importantly, the authors report a profound diminishing of CD4 and CD8 T cell activation while reporting greater PD-1 and LAG-3 expressions in the observed T cells. According to the authors, this study confirms that a RBD multi-booster vaccine strategy overturns the immunized immune memories via stimulation of adaptive immune tolerance. Evidence emerges of great health risks associated with the continuous use of SARS-CoV-2 vaccine boosters.

TrialSite has conveyed concern about the strategy to eradicate the viral pathogen via mass, ongoing vaccination. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved not only the primary series COVID-19 mRNA vaccines with no long term safety data but also authorized three boosters with limited data. The long-term safety implications of multiple boosters condensed in a relatively short period of time (a year or two) isn’t known.
