If the Wall Street Journal story is true and Attorney General Barr knew in the spring about the Biden investigation and kept it quiet — he should be fired by the end of business today,” former Fox News contributor Todd Starnes wrote Friday.
“A big disappointment!” Trump tweeted in response.
The outlet reported that Barr was briefed on a federal probe into Biden earlier this year which Biden himself acknowledged in a statement after the story was published.
Biden said in a statement via his father Joe Biden’s transition team that the U.S.attorney’s office in his home state of Delaware had been in contact with his attorney over “tax affairs.”
A source told the Daily Caller said that the investigation into Hunter Biden began in 2018, and that because the U.S. attorney’s office had contacted Biden’s lawyer the investigation was moving from the “covert” to the “overt” stage.
The WSJ said that Joe Biden did not appear to be a target of any probe.
Additional reports said the investigation into Hunter Biden also involved allegations of money laundering. CNN reported that investigators were concentrating, in part, on the vice-presidential son’s business dealings with CEFC China Energy, a China-based conglomerate that paid Biden some $6 million between 2017 and 2018.
“Congressional Republicans are furious that Barr never told us the news, even in confidence,” a source who works on Capitol Hill told the Daily Caller.
The president also criticized the Justice Department in general for not acting against the Bidens.
“IF Biden gets in, nothing will happen to Hunter or Joe. Barr will do nothing, and the new group of partisan killers coming in will quickly kill it all. Same thing with Durham. We caught them cold, spying, treason & more (the hard part), but “Justice” took too long. Will be DOA!” Trump tweeted.
“Why didn’t Bill Barr reveal the truth to the public, before the Election, about Hunter Biden. Joe was lying on the debate stage that nothing was wrong, or going on – Press confirmed. Big disadvantage for Republicans at the polls!” he wrote in another tweet.
The president also blasted the Supreme Court for ruling against Texas and 17 other states in their suit against Georgia, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin, in which they asked justices to instruct the legislatures in those states to pick their electors and throw out the results, claiming they were tainted by unconstitutional voting rule changes ahead of Nov. 3.
“The Supreme Court had ZERO interest in the merits of the greatest voter fraud ever perpetrated on the United States of America. All they were interested in is “standing”, which makes it very difficult for the President to present a case on the merits. 75,000,000 votes!” Trump wrote.
