Wishing all you, Ch00sters, a very Blessed and Happy Thanksgiving 2021!  God Bless You and Your Families!

“O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the LORD our maker.”  Psalms 95:6 (KJV)

In American, we celebrate Thanksgiving on the fourth Thursday of every November. It is a day to give thanks for the blessings they’ve received over the past year.

It is a holiday rich in symbolism. On Thanksgiving, American families sit down with loved ones and dine on traditional Thanksgiving fare — turkey, bread stuffing, potatoes, cranberries, and pumpkin pie.

The Bible tells us that we should “give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus” (1 Thessalonians: 5:18).

Thanksgiving is a wonderful time to spend with your family and loved ones to reflect upon and be grateful for all the blessings you’ve received from God.

Why do we give thanks on Thanksgiving?

When we offer a prayer of thanks on Thanksgiving, we express our gratitude to God for all the blessings He’s given us.

The tradition of giving thanks arose from people giving thanks for bountiful harvests. Thanksgiving is, in a sense, a harvest festival, which dates back to the time of the Pilgrims.

We can turn to the Bible to see the importance of giving thanks, especially to God. The Book of Psalms especially has many sections offering praise to God and thankfulness for blessings:

“You are my God, and I will praise you. You are my God, and I will exalt you. Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever” (Psalm 118:28-29).

A brief history of Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving was first celebrated by the Pilgrims in Virginia in 1621, a year after they arrived in the New World from England after a hazardous Atlantic Ocean sea journey on the Mayflower.  This is the 400th Anniversary of Thanksgiving.

On the first Thanksgiving, the Pilgrims thanked God for their safe deliverance, their children’s health, the fertility of their fields, and their faith which bound them to God.

Psalm 107 has often been called the “Pilgrims’ Psalm,” as this simple Bible verse gives thanks to God for his mercy in protecting seafarers and mariners during lengthy and hazardous sea voyages.

The Pilgrims used Psalm 107 to express their gratitude to God for delivering them safely to their new home in America.

“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever” (Psalm 107:1).

Psalm 107 also talks about the Hebrews who were wandering desert wastelands, finding nowhere to settle. Their wandering was similar to that of the Pilgrims.

The people asked God for help, and “he delivered them from their distress. He led them … to a city where they could settle.” (Psalm 107:6-7).

This powerful scripture is a prayer of thanksgiving, thanking God for rescuing the “redeemed,” God’s chosen people, after a difficult journey.

Thanksgiving prayer for protection

Dear Lord,
Thank you for our lives and our health today
We are very thankful for all your mercies and blessings upon our lives
We are especially thankful for your protection during the past year
We traveled, walked, run, slept, worked and you protected and preserved us from any dangers or accidents
We are truly grateful and thankful for that

Thank you for shielding us and our children from all evil
Thank you for saving us from all the dangers we may have faced in the past year
You shielded us from shootings, bombings, robberies, diseases, and the evil in this world
We bless you for your mercy for we are not special
As David said, what is our place that you love us?
Who are we that you continue to protect us the way you do?
We want you to know with every breath in our body that we are truly thankful for your never-failing love

Thanksgiving prayer for good health

Father Lord,
We bless your Holy Name on this Holy day
We want to thank you for our lives today
During the past year, there were times of ill health, hospital visits, headaches, injuries, colds and coughs
There were moments of weaknesses
There were times when we felt our bodies would give up the fight
Through it all, you have been faithful to us and our loved ones

You have preserved our lives and given us good health
During every test, you have kept us strong
You have cured and healed our diseases
You have taken away our crutches and removed our bandages
In times when we felt our spirits die, you woke us up again
You commanded life and strength into our weak bones

We are thankful for your healing hands
Thank you for being our doctor
Thank you for filling us with your healing spirit
We bless you, we praise you and we love you
Thank you for answering our prayers

Thanksgiving prayer for friends

Dear Lord,
Thank you for giving us this day
We want to thank you for our friends
Thank you for our neighbors, co-workers, and all the people in our lives
Thank you for their lives, their health, and their influences on us
Thank you for all the help they give us
Thank you for working through them whenever we were in trouble

Whenever there was an emergency you had somebody come to our aid
We are truly grateful for the people you brought into our lives
They enriched our lives in ways we could not imagine
Thank you for the gift that they are
They shared our sorrows and they shared our joy
We thank you and bless you for them
We ask that you continue to give them all they need and answer all their prayers
Let us be a blessing unto them just as they have blessed us

God Bless America & God Bless You
